SPAY AND NUETER YOUR PETS!
The importance of spaying and neutering your pet is profound. First off, spaying and neutering your pet helps prevent ovarian cancer, mammary tumors and uterine infections in female dogs. Have your female dog fixed will also eliminate the risk of non-neutered males jumping your fences or otherwise doing what they can to get to your dog. Neutering your male dog helps prevent testicular tumors and prostate problems. It also cuts the chance of perianal tumors and hernias which are common in older, non neutered males. AND.. it cuts the chance of your dog getting out of your yard to seek a female dog in heat. Males will do just about anything during peak heat season to find a heated female. Spaying and Neutering also gives behavior benefits. If you have your male and female fixed before sexual maturity, it helps with males in being less aggressive and less distracted. Neutered males are less likely to "spray" or "mark their territory", although some still do. Females who have a litter of puppies with most always become aggressive, protecting her pups to include being aggressive towards her human family. Spaying tends to make females, better companions.
Now strictly speaking of having your female spayed to prevent unwanted pregnancies is a big topic. There are MILLIONS of female dogs getting pregnant and having litters of puppies that no one wants. That is not including the puppy mills that do that for a living. So many puppies are euthanized every day, week, month and year because people did not have their animal spayed or neutered. This is a senseless act and as far as I am concerned should be considered abuse. If you knowingly refuse to have your animal fixed because you want litters of pups and kittens that you aren't going to be taking care of, this is neglect and abuse. You are purposley putting your animal at risk for not only diseases that could be prevented, but useless deaths. Not every person who will take one of your pups and kittens is going to do right by it. And if you don't care about that, you have NO business owning a pet. Only YOU can control this.
On the topic of expense of spaying and nuetering. All vets/ shelters have their own rates for this procedure. However if you want a pet and want to make sure it's spayed and neutered, you can contact your local vet and ask for a list of places that give LOW COST Spay and Neutering. It DOES Exsist! Do your homework. And even sometimes you'll see your shelter offer FREE spaying and neutering for certain breeds, like Pit Bulls, Rotweilers etc. If it was important enough to you to get a pet, ADVOCATE FOR IT! Think of it this way.. Spaying your animal is going to cost FAR less than it will raising a litter of pups/kitts. If you're thinking well it won't cost me anything, the mother will feed them. Well, you're half right. From personal experience, not EVERY mother will feed her litter. Some female dogs want NOTHING to do with their offspring. SO, that leaves you feeding these babies every two hours with an expensive alternative milk. I had to feed my Lil' Bear every two hours for 3 weeks than every 6 hours for another 3 weeks. And let me tell you, the can subsitute milk they require is NOT CHEAP! One, 8 oz. can will run you appx. $4. And when you on average feed the pup I had 2 oz. every 2 hrs.. and eventually 8oz. every 6 hours.. that gets EXPENSIVE. And that was a foster puppy I had. I eventually adopted him, but that cost was out of my own pocket and was not cheap. So you can get the awww their so cute, I can do it thing OUT of your mind. Now take what I had to do times 2 to 10 puppies. Do YOU want to be up every 2 hours feeding 10 puppies or kittens a bottle of milk? Probably not. Back to cost saving....It will be cheaper to get your pet fixed than it will to take it to the vet later to have tumors/ hernias removed and paying for the cure for cancer.
Be SMART, Be KIND, Be RESPONSIBLE, SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PET!
AS A REMINDER: THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO THOUSANDS OF UNWANTED LITTERS OF ANIMALS THAT COULD OF HAVE PREVENTED BY HAVING YOUR PET SPAYED AND NEUTERED.
